Marcus; or The Secret of Sweet

Marcus; or The Secret of Sweet
by Tarell Alvin McCraney
Directed by Irvin Mason, Jr.
Marcus is sixteen. And “sweet.”
That’s what folks say — in whispers, in warnings, in the way they look but don’t speak.
Days before Hurricane Katrina strikes, Marcus begins searching —
for his father’s past, his own truth, and a name for the sweetness he carries.
Set in the housing projects of San Pere, Louisiana, this coming-of-age story blends grief, queerness, and Southern Black tradition with the lyricism of Yoruba spirituality and community memory.
