The Leonard & Claire Tow Center for the Performing Arts features three major theaters, flexible event space, and state-of-the-art sound and lighting equipment. Rentals and ticketed programs directly support the programmatic mission of Brooklyn College, and most importantly, the students and artists we work with.

Our shows utilize puppetry, mask and music as powerful and engaging storytelling tools. We are often inspired by the complicated, rich history of our home city, New York.

Using puppetry, masks, and live action, Layer the Walls tells the incredible stories held within each layer of a Lower East Side tenement. Each part has three unique stories that can be viewed in any order.

Part I — Turn of the Century (1870–1909)

An Irish father builds the Brooklyn Bridge, Italian brothers endure the Blizzard of 1888, and Jewish girls face the 1909 Garment Strike.

A Chinese father swims the Hudson, a Holocaust survivor finds refuge, and Puerto Rican cousins join the Young Lords' fight for healthcare justice.
